So, I’m still wrapping my head around the fact that I’m pregnant. A whole human growing inside me? Wild. I always thought I’d be the kind of person who reads all the books, downloads all the apps, and totally nails this from day one. But early pregnancy has been… a whole experience.
So if you’re in the same boat or just curious, here are a few things no one warned me about. Nothing big or dramatic, just the weird, unexpected, low-key surprising things that hit me in the first few weeks. Some of these pregnancy symptoms had me in the pits!
1. You Might Not “Feel” Pregnant at First
I thought I’d instantly feel glowing or nauseous or different. Nope. For a while, I felt totally normal except for maybe being a little tired and weirdly emotional when I realized I had finished my good chocolate. I kept asking myself: Is this real? Spoiler: It is. And apparently, it’s super common not to feel much early on.
2. Fatigue Hits Like a Truck
I’ve never been so tired from doing…nothing. Like, I went to the grocery store and needed a nap. I spent the better part of my free time sleepong. Growing organs is serious work, apparently.
3. Your Sense of Smell Becomes Superhuman (and a Little Torturous)
Why does the world suddenly smell like raw onions and cleaning supplies?? My favorite coffee now makes me gag. I’m not even mad—just confused.
4. The Hormone Rollercoaster Is Real
One moment I’m excited and nesting. The next, I’m crying because I can’t find the charger. I didn’t expect the emotional waves to start this early.
5. “Morning Sickness” is “All day sickness”
It’s not just in the morning. Sometimes it’s 3pm. Or 10pm. Or, you know, all day. Right now I’m surviving on crackers, sips of ginger tea, and prayer.
6. The Internet Can Be a Scary Place
I went down a rabbit hole of pregnancy forums at 1am and convinced myself I was doing everything wrong. Pro tip: Don’t Google every tiny symptom.
7. You Don’t Instantly Turn Into a Baby Expert
This might sound obvious, but I seriously thought I’d magically know what I need to buy or do. Nope. I’m still learning what a bassinet is. And why are there 14 types of bottles?
(Stay tuned, I’ll definitely be writing about that.
8. You Might Not Want to Tell People Right Away and That’s Okay
I thought I’d shout it from the rooftops, but now that it’s real, I feel protective of the news. It’s like this little secret between me and the universe (okay, and my husband).
9. Every Pregnancy Is Different. Comparing Is Pointless
This one’s hard. Some people are running marathons at 8 weeks; I’m trying to walk up the stairs without needing a snack break. And that’s okay. It’s your journey and you live it as best as you can. Listen to your body!
10. It’s Okay to Feel a Bit Lost (Even Excited-Lost)
Honestly? I don’t know what I’m doing yet. But I am excited and curious. And I’m starting this blog to figure things out as I go. From body stuff to baby gadgets to parenting plans. I’m here to learn, mess up, and share.
If you’ve been pregnant before, I’d love to hear from you:
What surprised you most in the early weeks?
And if you’re pregnant now (congratulations!), what’s been the weirdest or funniest thing you’ve experienced so far?
Let’s figure this out together.
